We gave my son a globe this week. It came with a booklet titled, "How To Use And Enjoy Your Globe" which explains longitude and lattitude, degrees, and how time zones work. I was taken by the relationships between these two ideas:
A globe is round, with no beginning or end ... It has been said that wider use of the globe among all peoples of Earth could be a powerful instrument of peace.
Note: we searched a surprising amount of stores to find our globe. Prices started at $50 for a basic paper model with a plastic stand.
